Letter Recognition Games
Games are a great way to practice the alphabet. Make learning fun and promote letter recognition games with four easy alphabet activities:
Alphabet Card Game: Learn letters and become a card shark! Using a set of alphabet flashcards (Teach My Toddler The Alphabet has a set), split the pack into piles based on the number of players. Each player gets a pile. Players turn the top card over, letter-side up. Whoever has the card with the letter closest to the beginning of the alphabet, wins all of the cards. Go through your piles until they are all gone. The player with the most alphabet cards at the end is the winner.
Alphabet Art Game: For the budding illustrator! Using colored construction paper, cut out large, bubble alphabet letters from each sheet. Have your toddler think of things that start with each letter. You and your toddler can draw images representing each letter on the bubble letters, . Alphabet Car Game: Use letter recognition games to amuse your toddler on long car rides! Use signs, license plates and truck logos to find the letters of the alphabet in order. Q & Z can be tricky but persistent toddlers will be kept busy searching!
Alphabet Outdoor Game: Exercise and education combined! Use sidewalk chalk and a soft object (ie bean bag) to practice the alphabet. Simply draw squares on the driveway or sidewalk to represent each letter. Have your toddler throw the soft object on to a letter. They need to say the letter name and a word that begins with that letter.
